Continental Gives New Life to Tires

Autonomous Tire Sensors Patent Forecast®

December 12, 2019

One of the biggest names in tire manufacturing, Continental, is revamping their autonomous technology with their newest sensing prototype. What makes it unique is the self-sensing mechanism that incorporates automatic pressure adjustment via hydraulic pumps that force more air into the tires when the vehicle accelerates. This innovation - dubbed PressureProof technology - is claimed by the company to significantly reduce carbon emissions. It’s also a key aspect of their overall autonomous vehicle concept, which debuted at the Frankfurt motor show in early 2019, entitled Connectable. Autonomous. Reliable. Electrified or C.A.R.E.

This increased focus on improving self-maintenance technology for Continental comes after a considerable increase in losses in the past year, totaling $2.2 billion. As predictive maintenance becomes increasingly mainstream, it is evident that they are well enough willing to attempt to revive themselves and be part of the projected 250 million autonomous vehicles that will be on the road next year.
