System And Method For Detecting, Recording And Communicating Events In The Care And Treatment Of Cognitively Impaired Persons

A system and method for detecting, recording and communicating events involved in the care and treatment of cognitively impaired persons through detection, video recording, storage and communication. The system includes video cameras that typically begin recording upon detecting motion, a local computing unit at the care location that detects alerts, and a cloud or other remote computing and transmission unit. The local computing unit aggregates, stores, processes, and transmits data including performing event detection through an artificial intelligence technique and generating appropriate alerts. The cloud computing aggregates data from many managed care communities, trains new convolutional neural networks from this data, distributes these networks to the local computing units to perform event detection, and provides a platform for various stakeholders to view the collected video data and generated alerts.

4 Independent Claims

  • 1. A system for detecting and analyzing events at a care facility comprising: a plurality of cameras located at the care facility, each camera assigned to a particular location in said care facility, each camera having a field of view, each camera activating video recording upon detecting motion in its field of view; an event-detecting processor constructed to detect events from a recorded sequence of video frames originating at one of said cameras, the event-detecting processor including a convolutional neural network trained to detect said events, the event-detecting processor adapted to create an activity alert upon detection of an event, including event information; the event-detecting processor transferring said alert, said event information and the recorded sequence of video frames relating to the event over a communications network to a remote server, the remote server constructed to receive notification of event validity upon receiving said event information and the recorded sequence of video frames; the main server constructed to store said alert, said event information and said recorded sequence of video frames on a storage device.

  • 14. A system for detecting and analyzing fall events at a care facility comprising: a plurality of cameras located at the care facility, each camera assigned to a particular location in said care facility, each camera having a field of view, each camera activating video recording upon detecting motion in its field of view; a fall event detecting means for detecting a fall event from a recorded sequence of video frames originating at one of said cameras, the fall event detecting means creating a fall alert upon detection of a fall event, including fall event information; the fall event detecting means transferring said fall alert, said fall event information and the recorded sequence of video frames relating to the fall event over a communications network to a remote server, the remote server constructed to receive notification of event validity from an event analysis service upon receiving said fall event information and the recorded sequence of video frames; the main server constructed to store said fall alert, said fall event information and said recorded sequence of video frames on a storage device.

  • 15. A system for detecting and analyzing events at a care facility comprising: at least one camera located at the care facility, the camera assigned to a particular location in said care facility, the camera having a field of view, the camera activating video recording upon detecting motion in its field of view; an event-detecting processor constructed to detect events of interest from a recorded sequence of video frames originating at the camera, the event-detecting processor constructed to detect said events, and the event-detecting processor adapted to create an event alert upon detection of an event, including event information; the event-detecting processor transferring said alert, said event information and the recorded sequence of video frames relating to the event over a communications network to a remote server, the remote server constructed to receive notification of event validity upon receiving said event information and the recorded sequence of video frames; the main server constructed to store said alert, said event information and said recorded sequence of video frames on a storage device.
