Last month, heart health tracking company Alivecor received further FDA clearance for its 6-lead consumer ECG. While ECG monitoring has grown in popularity with wearable devices from Fitbit, Apple, and other companies, Alivecor’s KardiaMobile 6L uses three electrodes to provide a substantially more informative scan. The device, with just 30 second scans, can provide physicians data to diagnose arrhythmia such as bradycardia, tachycardia, and atrial fibrillation.
KardiaMobile 6L is still in a pre-order phase on Alivecor’s website, but hype for the device is already growing. Last week, the company announced a partnership with Best Buy that will put the device on shelves in 800 stores. While this indicates early commercial acceptance of the device, Alivecor has continued to invest in the technology, having applied for 14 ECG and mobile health related patents in the last two years alone, adding to their quickly growing portfolio, including four issued patents in AI Biotech / Diagnostics.
