In 2017, Magna teamed up with a powerful alliance that includes the BMW Group, Intel and Mobileye to bring autonomous driving technology to the market. In 2018, Magna and Innoviz Technologies, a specialist in building LIDAR systems, announced that they will provide BMW with solid-state lidar technology for its future autonomous vehicles. In 2019, Waymo and Magna, an automotive supplier, joined forces, with support from an $8 million grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to build a factory for self-driving cars in southeast Michigan.
