Hyundai Motors is a South Korean multinational automotive manufacturer, ranking as the third largest vehicle manufacturer in the world. The Hyundai Motor Group is also comprised of its 32.8% owned subsidiary in Kia Motors and its 100% owned luxury subsidiary Genesis Motor. In 2016, Hyundai announced the introduction of the Autonomous IONIQ concept. The vehicle is one of the few self-driving cars in development to have a hidden LiDAR system in its front bumper instead of on the roof. Hyundai also presented a fleet of autonomous vehicles equipped with Level 4 technologies at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games. In the same year, Hyundai Motor Group invested in Aurora, a developer of self-driving technology for autos, with a plan to bring the systems to Hyundai and Kia models. The companies have been working to develop and integrate the “Aurora Driver” which employs lidar, or light ranging and detection sensors, as part of its autonomous systems. Hyundai Motor Group’s future mobility plans include commercialization of Level 4 autonomous vehicles by 2021 with the pilot launch of a fleet of autonomous robo-taxis in smart cities.
