Established in 1936, Ricoh has long been a frontrunner in the world of office automation. They have led many revolutions in the market, such as releasing the first affordable digital office copier in 1987. Since then, they have diversified across many other industries by implementing and refining their optical and image processing technologies. In 2018, Ricoh developed a compact 3D laser scanner that was small and lightweight and easily integrated in autonomous vehicles. The software in the scanner uses image recognition to interpret the vehicles surroundings and quickly predict and react to impending collision. This better enhances driver safety and furthers the development of autonomous vehicles.
