"To develop bioplastics and biochemicals through the integration of chemistry and agriculture, by starting up biorefineries integrated in local areas and providing application solutions with low environmental impact that ensure the efficient use of resources throughout their entire life cycle, with social, economic and environmental advantages."
Novamont regenerates local areas by developing new proprietary technologies to rejuvenate industrial sites that are decommissioned or are no longer competitive, thus generating new industries, new products and new jobs. Their bioeconomy model has the following components:
MATER-BI, which is Novamont's family of biodegradable and compostable bioplastics, is obtained by means of pioneering proprietary technologies that use starches, cellulose, vegetable oils and their combinations. MATER-BI bioplastics properties and characteristics of use are very similar to those of traditional plastics, but at the same time, they are biodegradable and compostable according to the European standard UNI EN 13432. These biodegradability and compostability properties, along with the high content of renewable raw materials, allow optimal organic waste management, reduce the environmental impact and contribute to the development of virtuous systems, with significant advantages throughout the entire production-consumption-disposal cycle.
