More than 91,000 people have signed an ongoing Change.org petition demanding Trader Joe's to reduce plastic packaging. The petition urges the company to "start by eliminating plastic packaging on [their] produce. Offer produce in bulk like other grocery stores, and choose cardboard, glass and metal over plastic packaging." In response, Trader Joe's cited plans to implement changes and stated that it has already replaced plastic produce bags with biodegradable and compostable produce bags and eliminated Styrofoam produce packages in favor of bio-based, compostable trays.
