BASF, the top patent holder in the Biodegradable Packaging sector, will be marketing Lactips' water-soluble, bio-based, and fully biodegradable film material, which has homecare applications such as dishwasher tablets. While Lactips will benefit from the larger company's expertise and network, BASF will be able to offer its customers "a broad portfolio of biodegradable products for the homecare industry." In fact, BASF has a patent application published this week that is directed to an aqueous coating composition that can provide oxygen barrier properties to polymer films. By marketing Lactips' material, it will be able to seamlessly add a new product to its array of biodegradable films.
