Novamont, already with one of the strongest patent portfolios in the biodegradable packaging space, is continuing to grow their product offerings. The Italian company recently filed for a patent on a unique multilayer biodegradable film with a host of potential uses. The invention is intended to be processed into both carrying bags and individual product packaging, such as for use with fruits and vegetables. This move is in line with the company’s recent corporate partnerships, such as one with the UK’s Co-op food announced last fall. As the company continues to convert old industrial sites to new production plants, it can be expected that they will look for more partnerships with bigger grocers around the world to use their bags and plastics.
