Air India Soars Away from Plastics

Biodegradable Packaging Patent Forecast®

August 29, 2019

Air India, the state airline of India, has announced that it is banning all single-use plastic in flights starting October 2, 2019. While Air India itself is not an industry behemoth, it is a member of Star Alliance, which includes major airlines such as United Airlines, Lufthansa, and All Nippon Airways. Air India's membership in Star Alliance may lead to other international airlines following suit and eliminating single use plastics, a trend seen in other industries. This move has the ability to completely revolutionize the way airlines provide food to passengers, especially on long haul flights that include multiple meals. Companies with established IP in packaging for liquids, such as Footprint, will definitely have the opportunity to make the first move.
