Lore Technologies is expanding its patent portfolio, who will acquire it?

Biodegradable Packaging Patent Forecast®

January 7, 2021

The world uses over 500 billion plastic cups per year. With the COVID-19 pandemic expected to continue for at least a few more months and consumers becoming increasingly conscientious about the environmental impact of their purchases, alternative packaging companies, restaurant suppliers, and major fast food chains should all be looking to acquire intellectual property that will provide protection and exclusive rights in the biodegradable packaging sector.

One potential acquisition target is Lore Technologies’ dissolvable cup. Back in November 2020, we identified Lore Technologies and its innovative dissolvable cup technology. At the time, Lore Technologies had an unpublished child application, which was recently published on December 31, 2020. The publication is directed to a water soluble container

The significance of this continuation application is that it allows for Lore Technologies to continue to grow its patent portfolio and target claims towards competitors or towards companies that may wish to acquire Lore Technologies. For example, Fuling Plastic USA claims it serves 5 of the 6 top fast food chains in America and it offers cups, paper cups, and portion cups. However, it does not currently have any patent documents in the biodegradable packaging sector, so it may look to acquire Lore Technologies’ portfolio to gain some positioning in the industry.

J&J Green Paper is an alternative packaging company that should consider acquiring Lore Technologies patent portfolio. J&J Green Paper is addressing single-use plastic, particularly single-serve coffee brewing pods. It has licensed its proprietary formula to CST Green Resources Limited of Hong Kong so it appears to have an interest in using its intellectual property. However, J&J Green Paper only has one patent document in the biodegradable packaging sector, so it may look to acquire or license Lore Technologies’ patent portfolio as it continues to make a name for itself in the biodegradable packaging industry.
