Reality Labs at UCSF, which is sponsored by Facebook, announced that their Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) project can read data directly from the brain and transcode it into words with just a 3% error rate. Facebook intends to put this into its AR/VR to give users a hands-free immersion. Some have said, even recently, that mind-reading is a long way off. This event just goes to show that anything is possible with the creative ability available now. UCSF has four issued patents in this sector, maybe enough to protect their mind-reading abilities.
