University of North Texas Helping Officials Detect Cannabinoids in the Breath

Z-ARCHIVE-Cannabis Patent Forecast®

June 18, 2020

Last year, Texas defined hemp as any cannabis plant with less than 0.3% THC and marijuana as any cannabis plant having more than that, but cops complained about the difficulties around making this distinction in the field.

The University of North Texas seems to have pitched in with their patent application (US Pub. No. 20200178891) for a rapid detection and quantitation of volatile organic compounds in breath samples. Breathalyzers for marijuana will be able to accurately determine whether a driver has been recently impaired by marijuana, or THC specifically.

Magic Number has highlighted Hound Labs Inc. of California, another company specializing in the detection of cannabis impairment and use. Use the Magic Number Cannabis Patent Forecast® to explore the IP world of Cannabis Sobriety Tests.
