One of the world's largest tobacco companies, Altria is now setting its sails towards cannabis. In 2019, Altria purchased 45% stake in Canadian cannabis company Cronos Group for $1.8B. Since then, Altria has begun lobbying state and federal congress to make friendly changes to cannabis, hemp, and the tax laws surrounding the space. Additionally, Altria has been building its patent portfolio up in the cannabis space with 3 patent assets and 19 patent applications all related to vape inventions.
