Online mattress retailer Casper Sleep recently released a glow lamp that's the Swiss Army knife of sleep lighting. Patent Forecast™ shows Casper is largely absent from patent activity in Visual Devices. However, potential competitors continue to bolster their relevant portfolios. Lighting Science gained another patent this week related to adjusting circadian rhythm. When combined with the portfolio of subsidiary Biological Illumination, the company has a significant presence in the visual area of consumer sleep technology. Lighting Science now appears to be selling several related products through its startup, Healthē. Is Casper's lamp a sign of consumer sleep tech to come, or will this remain an add-on to the mattresses that are the company's bread and butter?
