Edge Computing Patent Forecast®

December 19, 2019

Already a major player in the Edge Computing space, Intel is attempting to expand their reach, specifically with the implementation of artificial intelligence solutions in the space. Intel has acquired Habana Labs, an Israeli chip startup.

The work of Habana Labs is centered on AI training and inference chips for data centers. Intel expects Habana to "turbo-charge [their] AI offerings for the data center with a high-performance training processor family and a standards-based programming environment to address evolving AI workloads.” Habana Labs has no published IP in this space, but Intel's filings imply they are already experimenting with artificial intelligence and edge computing, so this investment means those efforts will likely increase.
