Haier has been publishing demand response patents as early as 2009. Through the past decade, from the company’s innovative responses to evolving home thermal management to their recent successful transition back to full capacity in the wake of COVID-19, it has shown an ability to grapple with a fast changing industry. Similar to Lenovo, the company recently embraced an “open innovation” style, where research problems are shared collaboratively with the public. This must have proved fruitful, since their partnership with GE came about slightly after the majority of their patents were published, in 2016.
