Itron has made itself notorious as a metering company primarily, but its debut product in demand response, the Riva Platform in 2016, integrated electricity, gas and water through IoT computing for home management. The development of this system was open for public consultation, and this unconventional process must have contributed to their solidification of market presence as they were able to acquire DR giant Comverge in 2017. Since then, its patents have largely related to cross platform integration, indicating it is grappling with melding the two very different industry roles.
