A pandemic is an epidemic of an infectious disease that crosses international boundaries. Initial containment seeks to stop the spread of the infectious agent. If unsuccessful, efforts are directed at slowing the spread of disease and mitigate its effects on the health care system and society. Various treatment methods are common to many infectious disease. Vaccines are also developed as quickly as possible to prevent widespread damage.
