Microsoft has become a serious player in the cloud marketplace with its Azure cloud platform and is positioning itself to extend its dominance by investing in edge computing and IoT. In 2018, Microsoft announced a $5 billion investment in IoT and intelligent edge technology. Since then, Microsoft has evidenced commitment to the intelligent edge with the introduction of Azure Sphere, and Azure IoT Central, as well as collaborations with Intel and ITRI.
