As the public's perceived understanding of both 5G and edge computing continue to boom, so do company's filings. Cisco, who coined the term "fog computing" in 2012 and recently released their HyperFlex Anywhere servers, was recently issued a patent for blockchain based data sharing in a cloud network. While Cisco is a major player in the edge computing space, and is currently the number two corporate owner, this is their first dive into the blockchain aspect. Will this be a trend for the foreseeable future, or will Cisco continue to focus on non-blockchain platforms?
