This week, Dallas-based DartPoints announced a majority investment from Astra Capital Management. Founded in 2012, DartPoints operates edge colocation data centers for carriers, enterprises, and content providers. Astra Capital Management sees DartPoints as a highly scalable company with a proven business model.
This investment will enable DartPoints to accelerate its growth both by buying and building, including acquiring existing data centers and developing new edge colocation data centers.
DartPoints has a similar business model to other companies in the space, such as Packet and Vapor IO. Placing small data centers nearby cell towers and on the property of large companies or buildings increases accessibility of edge computing services. Unlike Packet and Vapor IO, however, DartPoints currently has no published IP.
Astra Capital Management also has a stake in Communication Technology Services, a provider of wireless infrastructure services, and Logix Fiber Networks, a fiber network provider and operator of high-performance colocation data center facilities in Texas, so they are very familiar with this space.
