Smart Cities: Edge Computing

Nebbiolo Technologies, founded in 2015, is a Santa Clara-based startup bringing cloud-like flexibility and real-time controllability to IoT platforms. Focused on industrial applications, the company also has a hand in other verticals including energy, oil and gas, and smart cities/intelligent transportation.

Nebbiolo Technologies provides a three-component platform to customers, which includes:

• fogNodes - modular design hardware that enables appropriate virtualized compute, networking and storage features.
• fogOS - software stack to enable fast and secure communications, data management, and application development on the edge.
• fogSM - system manager functionality for fogNodes and connected devices.

The company has multiple pending patent applications, and recently had a first application published which teaches systems and methods for security of industrial data streams on the edge utilizing a blockchain solution.

Last month, Nebbiolo Technology's platform was selected by Hyundai-Kia Motors to provide digitization and insight into their manufacturing plants worldwide. This indicates a significant level of trust and belief in the industrial system the small team at Nebbiolo Technologies has developed.
