Semiconductor company Applied Materials launched thin film solar manufacturing company SunFab in 2007 in hopes of providing turnkey thin film manufacturing factories. SunFab was shut down three years later due to the overseas competition and some of their clients going bankrupt. Applied is still manufacturing thin film silicon technology.
