Styrofoam food containers are already banned in cities such as NYC, LA, and Seattle. However, Maryland may become the first to institute a state-wide ban of the material. The law, if signed by the governor, would prohibit both food service businesses and schools from selling or providing polystyrene food service products on or after July 1, 2020. The bill not only already passed the state Senate and the House of Delegates, but is also expected to pass regardless of the governor's position on this issue given that the level of support from the legislature is enough to override his veto.
