E6PR, an award-winning startup that sells 100% biodegradable and compostable six pack rings, had made headlines when it began partnering with breweries. The rings are made from wheat and barley, and their unique and environmentally-friendly nature has garnered partnerships with multiple breweries around the world, including Australia, South Africa, Poland, Scotland, the Solomon Islands, and of course the US. Even Corona joined with a pilot program this year, becoming the first global beer brand to trial 100% plastic-free six pack rings. E6PR has filed a US patent application for its product, which is currently pending. Although the patent application emphasizes the edible nature of the six pack rings, the company still recommends disposing them in compost facilities as they are tasteless and have no nutritional value.
