Did Microsoft really put wearables to sleep?

Consumer Sleep Technology Patent Forecast®

May 1, 2019

Microsoft discontinued the Band wearable in 2016. The company recently announced that they are ending support for the Band wearable and deleting all data from the Health Dashboard on May 31, 2019. Microsoft is not the only company to struggle in the competitive wearable market. BodyMedia, Nike, and Jawbone, all present in the Consumer Sleep Technology sector, are no longer making wearables.

A patent application published this week indicates that Microsoft is still investing in wearable technology. This patent application was filed after the Band wearable was discontinued. Is this an indication that Microsoft may return to wearables in the future, either through an acquisition or on their own?
