Kokoon, a London-based company, recently received £540,000 (approximately $661,000) in funding from Blackfinch Ventures. Kokoon has developed the world's first sleep-aiding headphones. The noise-cancelling headphones include EEG sensors to determine whether a user is awake or asleep. The headphones pair with a mobile application to play soothing audio. The mobile application evaluates how the user responds to the audio and adjusts the audio to the individual user. The mobile application also uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) techniques to help users sleep and relax.
Kokoon's second US patent application published on September 26th for dry EEG sensors, which is in the Sensors - Electrical category of the Consumer Sleep Technology sector. The first US patent applications for headphones in the Devices - Sound category is still pending, and the corresponding British patent has been granted. Additional US filings are expected as Kokoon continues to expand into the US market.
