Bardy Diagnostics - The New Boston Scientific?

AI Biotech/Diagnostics: Other Innovation Patent Forecast®

June 11, 2020

On Tuesday, Bardy Diagnostics had their seventh patent application published in just three years. (U.S. App. No. 20200170531) This application is their second of 2020, and teaches a new ECG device that is intended for extended, continuous wear. Unlike most other ECG devices on the market, Bardy Diagnostic's monitor (named the CAM Patch), is meant to be worn during athletic activities and is water resistant meaning it doesn't need to be removed to shower. The ECG monitor, which adheres to the center of the chest, also incorporates a unique hourglass shape meant to be more comfortable for female wearers. The long-term wearability, comfort, and accuracy from the Cam Patch's industry-standard twelve lead detection system makes the device an attractive option for those looking to diagnose underlying heart conditions in a non-invasive way.

Bardy Diagnostics was founded in 2013, but has only been actively pursing patents in the AI/Biotech sector since 2018. In that time, it has built an IP portfolio consisting of seven applications and four patents, all of which relate to wearable ECG monitors.  It is also worth noting that since Bardy's first application in 2018, their biggest competitor (and the largest assignee in Magic Number’s AI/Biotech-Cardio Patent Forecast®) Boston Scientific, has only grown their IP portfolio in the Cardio sector by nine documents. Although Bardy Diagnostics is a relatively young company, their quickly expanding IP portfolio suggests they may be looking to join the ranks of other large medical device corporations such as Boston Scientific. Could their success make them an acquisition target for Boston Scientific? Or will another competitor seek to acquire this swiftly growing company?
