Irish startup Sula Health has launched an Indiegogo campaign for its light therapy glasses, which act as prescription glasses but are also designed to deliver light therapy to reset a healthy circadian rhythm and promote good sleep. The company's only published patent document is an international (PCT) application filed in Q4 of 2019. The patent teaches a pair of glasses with a built-in light source and filtering lenses but does not address how the wearable device will be controlled. The company's CEO estimated funding to be about $120,000 at the end of 2019.

The glasses do ship worldwide, but so far Sula Health does not have any published USPTO patents or applications. The subsector of wearable light therapies within consumer sleep technologies is fairly small; however, there are patents for glasses or goggles assigned to large corporations such as Philips as well as smaller companies such as Re-Timer and independent inventors from Stanford University. If effective, Sula's product could fill a niche in sleep technology for light therapy glasses that can also function as regular glasses to be worn throughout the day. The company will need to strengthen its patent portfolio to be more effective and attractive as it moves into commercialization; in the meantime, view potential competitors and identify white space on the Magic Number® Patent Radian®.
