Microsoft has been leading research in brain-machine interface technology with some notable research projects that include using EEG signals and a brain-computer interface to create and improve virtual reality glasses and brain reading technology that can assist people with locked-in syndrome, a rare neurological disease in which people can only communicate with eye movement. Microsoft has also performed research in brain computer interface systems that are hands and eyes free, and therefore rely on information from touch and sound.
