Founded in 1885 and headquartered in Cork, Ireland, with its present incarnation resulting from the merger of American company Johnson Controls with Tyco International in 2016, Johnson Controls is a multinational conglomerate that produces systems, including networks and sensors, for outfitting buildings to make them more energy-efficient via the control of energy-intensive infrastructures such as HVAC and lighting. Johnson Controls' products cover nearly the entire range of electric powered appliances and systems any building, large or small, could have. While Johnson Controls has traditionally focused more on the hardware and platform side of energy use regulation, within the passed few years the have shifted more to the transactional side of energy delivery, while still keeping a strong presence in the platform side of things, signaling a desire to expand their hold on the industry as a whole.
