Trilliant Systems, headquartered in Cary, NC, was recently issued a new patent for hand held terminal security for use in the field. The patent describes a device to authenticate a tool in the field with a certificate and establishing secure connection before performing a task. Already being recognized for development in smart grids, lighting, and metering, Trilliant continues to expand its reach. In December, the company announced a partnership with Edenote, a Dominican energy utility, to use a low power wide area network to connect around 30,000 smart meters across the country.
