1. A method, comprising: (6) (4)

configuring a set of computing elements to receive and process messages into a blockchain, wherein a message is associated with a transaction to be included in the blockchain, the computing elements organized as a set of computing nodes:

for a given block to be added to the blockchain, associating ordered segments of the block within respective computing nodes, wherein a segment of the block comprises a set of one or more transactions that are unique to the segment; and

processing the block into the blockchain using the ordered segments;

wherein, during processing of the block, transactions within each segment are sequenced and processed concurrently with respect to one another, and wherein segments are processed independently of each other.

2. The method as described in claim 1 wherein the block is processed by processing transactions in a segment concurrently in a pipelined manner. (1) (0)

4. The method as described in claim 1 wherein each computing node comprises a cluster of node-specific computing, communications and storage elements. (0)

5. The method as described in claim 1 wherein messages are received concurrently from a plurality of edge servers configured in a plurality of geographically-distinct locations. (2) (0)

8. The method as described in claim 1 wherein the set of computing elements are configured as a non-blocking full mesh interconnect topology. (0)

The method as described in claim 1 wherein a response time for processing the block into the blockchain is on an order of a sub-second, and wherein the block is designated as being an immutable component of the blockchain within approximately 1-2 seconds following initiation of the transaction. (0)

10. The method as described in claim 1 wherein the set of computing elements scales to handling at least approximately 10⁶transactions per second forwarded from the set of edge servers. (0)

11. A method of processing transactions that initiate from geographically-dispersed wallet services, comprising: (3) (4)

at a local computing node that is one of a set of computing nodes, the computing nodes within the set operating autonomously, and wherein no individual computing node on its own is considered trustworthy, continuously receiving transactions;

at the local computing node, and upon receipt, validating a transaction, wherein upon validating the transaction, the transaction is saved in a memory pool and propagated to other computing nodes in the set for validation of the transaction in such other computing nodes;

at the local computing node, and upon initiation of an instruction to mine a block to be added to a blockchain, and for each particular segment of a set of ordered segments constituting the block, sequencing transactions from the memory pool into the particular segment and propagating digests associated with the particular segment to other computing nodes in the set for verification, wherein upon verification of each particular segment-, the segments are aggregated into the block; and

upon initiation of an instruction to finalize the block, verifying the block and adding it to the blockchain.

12. The method as described in claim 11 wherein the instruction to finalize the block is a result of execution of a consensus algorithm across at least some of the computing nodes in the set. (1) (0)

The method as described in claim 11 wherein the validating a transaction includes obtaining one or more transaction inputs, and verifying a signature associated with each of the one or more transaction inputs, wherein upon verification of the signature associated with all transaction inputs the transaction is saved in the memory pool and propagated to the other computing nodes. (0)

15. The method as described in claim 11 wherein the transactions are sequenced from the memory pool into the particular segment in a pipelined manner. (0)

A computing node associated with one or more other computing nodes, wherein a set of computing nodes that includes the computing node are configured to receive and process messages into a blockchain, wherein a message is associated with a transaction to be included in the blockchain, the computing node comprising: (1) (3)

hardware; and

computer memory holding software executed by the hardware, wherein the software is configured to receive and process a given segment of a block of the blockchain, wherein the given segment of the block comprises a set of one or more transactions that are unique to the given segment, wherein during processing of the block transactions within the given segment are sequenced and processed concurrently within the computing node with respect to one another;

wherein the computing node operates autonomously and asynchronously with respect to the one or more other computing nodes with which it is associated in the set of computing nodes, such that each of the segments of the block including the given segment are processed independently of each other.

17. The computing node as described in claim 16 wherein the software comprises a coordinator. (3) (0)

The computing node as described in claim 17 wherein the coordinator participates with coordinators located in the one or more other computing nodes to determine whether the computing node should mine the given segment into a block and thereafter when to persist the block that includes the given segment to the blockchain. (2) (0)

The computing node as described in claim 17 wherein the software also comprises a transaction handler, wherein the transaction handler participates with transaction handlers located in the one or more other computing nodes to verify transactions to be assigned to a given block and sequenced into the given segment. (0)

22. The computing node as described in claim 17 wherein the software further comprises a transaction handler, and an unspent transaction output (UTXO) handler to manage UTXOs associated with transactions handled by the transaction handler. (1) (0)
