Don't Touch Your Face

Pandemics/Epidemics (Free) Patent Forecast®

April 9, 2020

What is the first thing most people are being told regarding COVID-19? "Don't touch your face." For contact lens wearers, this might translate into wearing glasses more than normal. But what if wearing glasses benefited the general public as well?

Facense, an Israel-based company, is packaging artificial intelligence, thermal measurements, eye tracking, and more into glasses. The company aims to measure vital signs without people noticing, and provide feedback about incoming problems, such as migraines, before they appear.

This week, Facense CEO Gil Thieberger announced on LinkedIn that the company is planning to release smartglasses which can detect early signs of COVID-19. The glasses are designed to monitor vital signs as well as for fever, coughing, and sneezing. An illustration of the company's app is below.

Facense is uniquely positioned to take on COVID-19 detection in this manner, as the company already has dozens of patents and patent applications in the AI biotech space relating to the measuring of vital signs. The question here may just be how long it will take Facense to get these glasses in production and on faces in hard-hit areas around the world.
