PhysIQ Seeks Out COVID-19

Pandemics/Epidemics (Free) Patent Forecast®

April 16, 2020

Chicago-based physIQ is using AI to fight the spread of COVID-19. PhysIQ is at heart a personalized physiology data analytics platform which tracks vital signs to detect clinical changes against a person's own baseline, rather than what is considered normal, using artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Now, physIQ is using training data and skills developed while fighting the Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone to create a set of clinical "rules" for patients diagnosed with or exposed to COVID-19. Using over one million hours of annotated physiological data collected in partnership with the life-science industry and the Veterans Affairs Administration, the company hopes to decrease patient and healthcare provider exposure to SARS-CoV-2. In part, they believe they can provide increased surveillance to remotely monitored patients.

PhysIQ recently had a patent issued which relates to the respiratory system, the body's system most directly impacted by COVID-19. The patent teaches estimating a respiratory functional capacity, such as VO2Max by applying the vital signs of a monitored human to a trained encoding neural network producing a cardio profile vector.

The company is also pursuing clinical use cases including chronic diseases including COPD, heart failure, and responses to immuno-suppressive therapies.
